The change of style is not the issue. It’s the change of the TEXTURE of the hair that’s the problem. The “it’s just a hairstyle” argument would only be true if the weaves mimicked the natural texture of black women’s hair but that’s usually not the case. It seems to be intended to mimic European and Asian texture.

actually pinkk I thought that men picked us (at least initally) based on the whole physical package. We are not trying to trick you. We know that you know dang well that we weren’t born with the straight hair. Women dress for other women!! Pinkk hair is in the eye of the beholder but I can appreciate your candor about how you feel about permed long hair or weaved long hair. Since you like nautral hair, do I understand that you prefer it short? There are some naturals with more hair.

There is quite a large variety including lots of different types of wigs that women wear. Just visit a beauty supply store. I just think that women like the same general style. You usually add weave for a quick change in the length of your hair. Yes, I get hated on for being natural.

While I can agree that a lot of women have issues with themselves and self esteem, I can tell you as a woman that we some of us just like to change our hair, our nails, our clothes often. I don’t think that all women who wear weaves dislike themselves at all. I wear my hair natural but that was not to knock wearing perm, I just wanted a change. Don’t you find that women are beautiful no matter what? Makeup, weave is just how we adore outselves. Well, most of us.

Wrong, weaves for black women in America have become a NECESSITY and more BW have them than not, which in itself is very disturbing.

I agree
You can shave the singer guapole bald and that woman will still be beautiful to me.

Ahhh, so it’s mens fault, nice deflection.

It is a deeper issue, I’ve heard women say that a woman’s hair is like a crown that she wears, an African crown. Instead, they rather wear cheap European/Asian knock offs rather than embrace the essence of themselves.

He never said hair doesn’t mean anything to a guy. He said that hair is separate from your face and body so it doesn’t do anything to change those features. So I don’t see a contradiction at all.

you kinda’ contradicted yourself! You seem to be saying that womans hair doesn’t mean anything to a guy. Then it seems like you’er saying that a man wants a womans hair to be looking nice. So which is it? Hair doesn’t matter or hair does matter?

True, weaves are more common in the U.S which is another thing that lets me know that it’s much deeper than just a hair style. By variety, I meant that there would be more women with their hair natural if it was simply just about having different hair styles yet the overwhelming majority seem to wear weaves. I know black women who have never even seen some of their friends natural hair before. I have a hard time believing that so many women simply look better with weaves. It’s a deeper issue.

This seems to be a bigger issue in the U.S than in Canada. In Toronto, weaves are not more common.
What do you mean by variety, though? Weaves come in all textures, colours, cuts etc.
BTW: natural sisters wear weaves as a protective style a few months out of the year, so don’t be so quick to judge a woman with a weave.

Yes, Hair should be an accessory but it’s clearly deeper than that. What’s the explanation for why the majority of black women wear weaves? If it’s “just a hairstyle” wouldn’t there be more of a variety? Wouldn’t there be more natural haired women in the mix? Since those who wear weaves by far outnumber those who don’t that tells me that there’s a bigger issue there. Also, whenever men or women promote natural hair they seem to get a lot of backlash and haters. What’s the reason for that?

Hair, for woomen, is an accessory. (or it should be) Hair is dead skin cells. It’s men who are too caught up in the idea of running their grubby fingers through long, silky, flowing dead skin cells.
Women style their hair to suit their outfit or frame their face. I don’t think that women style their hair to take attention away from their natural feature. If anything, that’s makeup, not hair.
